Kari Lehr Card – Bison

“Not to be confused with buffalo, which are found in Africa and Asia, bison are an iconic symbol of the North American landscape. For hundreds of years, bison were deeply connected to the daily lives and culture of the Plains first Nations people. More than 20 million bison once roamed the North American landscape, but by 1889 the population numbered just over 1000 due to loss of habitat and over hunting by European settlers. Today there are approximately 30,000 wild bison in conservation herds, and only 5000 which roam unfenced and free.”

Kari Lehr lives and paints in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass, Canada. A graduate of the Alberta Collage of Art and Design, her work explores themes relating to womanhood as well as our connection to the natural world and each other.
